Volunteer with UpReach!
Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age in order to participate as a leader or side walker in therapeutic riding and therapeutic driving lessons, as well as hippotherapy sessions. Volunteers are asked to walk and occasionally jog for 45-60 minutes (please let us know if you prefer to be in a walk-only lesson and we will do our best to accommodate). Your human and horse friends depend on you, and UpReach requires a minimum 1 hour per week (per six to eight-week term) commitment.
All those wishing to volunteer as a horse leader and/or side walker must complete a general volunteer training. This three-hour training consists of a classroom style presentation and discussion, as well as a hands-on learning and practice mock lesson in the barn. Please remember to wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes and comfortable clothing. You are welcome and encouraged to bring a bottle of water and snack! For more information on what to expect, please reference the volunteer information page.

Taking the Lead:
All those wishing to handle a horse in any capacity as a leader in lessons/sessions, barn help, hill walking, exercise riding, etc. must complete a "Taking the Lead" training. This one and a half-hour training consists of watching a short video and discussion, as well as hands-on practice in the barn. Please remember to wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes and comfortable clothing. You are welcome and encouraged to bring a bottle of water and snack! For more information on what to expect, please reference the volunteer information page.
G.A.S. Goal Training:
Let's learn about G.A.S. Goals! G.A.S. is short for Goal Attainment Scaling and it's the way UpReach measures the effectiveness of therapeutic riding and therapeutic driving lessons. Attend this 90-minute presentation to hear more about the process, 2016 - 2017 results, and how to be a more effective rater! Light refreshments to be served.
